Week 6 Challenge 2016

It's Week Six of our Summer Reading Blog Challenge. How is your reading going?

Are you looking for a new book to read? Check out the book that Ben A. just finished reading.
Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar
I finished reading Sideways Stories from Wayside School. Louis had a rainbow mustache and rainbow hair. All of the children called him Louis the yard teacher. Maurecia loved ice cream and every day she brought in a different flavor. Her favorite flavor was chocolate. You should really read this book to learn about all of the funny students.
Ben A., Grade 3
Here's a short video that tells more about the book.

  1. Rayne B. 2nd grade Green eggs and Ham
There was a little kid named Sam who was trying to get an adult to eat green eggs and ham. Sam tried to get the adult to eat green eggs and ham in different places. I connected to this book because I have never had rice before but I tried it just like Sam did with his green eggs and ham.

I just read all about Christopher Columbus. He was looking to find the "Indies" which is known as Japan and China. Marco Polo went there and Christopher read all about his trip and got authorized to go by Queen Isabella. Sadly, he never arrived at the "Indies." He was disappointed that he didn't find loads of gold. (Marco Polo wrote that lots of gold were at the "Indies") He only found a couple pieces of gold, cotton, parrots, corn, etc. But he discovered some things more exciting than gold. The Europeans had discovered new islands. Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, America, etc. He soon died of a disease. Christopher Columbus will always be important. Without him we wouldn't know what America is.

  4. Kylie H. Grade 3, The Tree of Life
The tree of life is a coconut tree. You can find it in Fiji, Hawaii, Samoa, and Tonga. The leaf part is called frond. There are coconuts, a trunk, leaf, and roots on the tree. A coconut can roll out to shore and go to a different island. When it stays on land it can turn into another coconut tree. People use the outside of the coconut to make furniture. The roots can give them medicine and also flavors in their drinks. People pick off leaves from the coconut tree to make an outfit. People use the milk inside of the coconut for a drink. People make soap out of it too. There are different parts of the coconut. These are the white flesh, milky water, inner shell, husk, and the coir. People use their bare hands to make the milk. The tree of life is important to people who live on the islands.

When they were looking on the ground for the babies they found one and it had a tag on it. They took the baby to the vet. The kids thought someone had stolen the baby falcons so they could race them. At the end they found all the missing baby falcons in a shed.

In this book Morgan and Merlin thought they weren't giving enough gratitude to Jack and Annie for doing all the dangerous adventures so they gave them a vacation to wherever they wanted to go is where they would get to go in the treehouse. Jack and Annie decided they wanted to go to Mexico to snorkel. They accidentally went back in time about 100 years. They were attacked by a shark when they were on a raft looking for the coral reef. I am reading Bad Kitty vs Uncle Murray. This book is so funny. Uncle Murray lookd after Bad Kitty and Puppy. Bad Kitty does not like Uncle Murray, she calls him a monster. Uncle Murray is funny because he talks to himself a lot. My favorite part is when Bad Kitty tries to eat Puppy's leg because she has not eaten in 20 minutes. That part reminds me of my dog trying to bite my other dog's leg.

I read a book called Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. In the story, a donkey named Sylvester Duncan likes to collect pebbles. On a rainy Saturday, he finds a flaming red, shiny, perfectly round pebble like a marble. When he picked it up it stopped raining! He says to himself, "What a lucky day this is!" As he was crossing Strawberry Hill, he saw a mean, hungry lion. He was pretty calm. Meanwhile back at the house, Mrs and Mr. Duncan couldn't find him anywhere! They asked everybody, but they had no clue. They went to the police. They had no clue too. After a month of searching he was never found. When Sylvester woke a from sleeping, all he felt was hopeless and unhappy. Then it turned into Winter. He had nothing but himself. Then turned Spring. In May, Mr and Mrs. Duncan went on a picnic. Since Sylvester turned into a rock, the magic pebble was on his back. Sylvester said in his mind, " I wish I were my myself again, I wish I were myself again!" Then he turned back into a donkey! The Duncan Family was so happy that they lived happily ever after!
