  1. Amanda M, Grade 5- I am reading the book Holes. So far it is about a boy who goes to a juvinle detenction center for getting caught with a famous persons shoes that were stolen. The detenction center is bad and they make you dig holes in the desert. My mom says there is a movie that goes with the book and after I finish reading the book she will get the movie for me to watch. I really like reading a book and then watching the movie so I can compare the differences!

So on my previous blog about Percy Jackson, I said that I was going to tell every one what Jake said to Percy on the magical rainbow. Jake said to Percy that there was trouble at Camp Half-Blood. That trouble was that more monsters were unleashed there, and monsters where not supposed to be doing that at Camp Half-Blood because it has a protective shield surrounding it. Percy and Jake both think that Hades (the god of the underworld) is putting all these monsters here to defeat the camp full of Half-Bloods. I personally think that this book is very exciting so far!

I am reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It's about a boy named August or Auggie, who never went to school before because of his deformed face. His some-what friends are Charlotte, Summer, and Jack Will. He used to think Jack's name was Jackwill. Apparently Will is his last name. Anyways, a boy named Julian bullies him about his face. He asks, "So what happened to your face? Were you in a fire?" And then Julian noticed Auggie liked Star Wars. He asked "What's your favorite character?" He replied Jango Fett. Then Julian asked "Do you like Darth Sidious?" And apparently Darth Sidious's face melted and looked strange so thats why 1 single question hurt Auggie's feelings. Then Auggie was going to dress up as Boba Fett but changed to a bleeding scream. He saw Darth Sidious and realized right away it was Julian. 2 mummies were with him also. Then Auggie heard voices. He heard Julian say "Why do you hang out with him?" One mummy said "I don't know. Principal Tushman said to hang out with him. Plus if I looked like him, I'd kill myself. I can't stand looking like that and being stared at." (shrugs shoulders) Auggie knew the shrug, and he knew the voice. It was one of his best friends, Jack Will.

This book is called Princess Diaries Elizabeth the First.
This is based on a girl named Elizabeth. Everyone called her the forgotten princess because her father the king had so much to do that she was forgotten. This book talked about her life and how things went.

  7. Hannah T. Grade 2. This week I read a book about Strawberry Shortcake called, Lost and Found. It is about Strawberry Shortcake who was outside playing with her friends when it started to rain. So, they headed all inside. But their pets didn't make it inside, so they headed back outside to look for them. They thought it was hopeless, but eventually found them by following their paw prints! At the end their was a beautiful rainbow. This reminds me of an episode I watched of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood when a bunny was lost and Daniel and his friends followed the paw prints and found him!

Wow I can't believe it's the last week of the summer reading challenge. For the last week I'm reading one of the best books I've ever found EVER . Last week I blogged about reading secrets in the hills. I am like halfway through and it is AMAZING . It is so intense and amazing. Well so far in the book of Josefina here's scary noises at night decide to go out and fines she's standing in a graveyard and then sees the wandering woman. But finally she wakes up and realizes it was all a dream. But then people in the village start talking more about the wandering woman. And Joséfina wonders if it wasn't just a dream. Well that's all I've read so far I can't wait to finish reading it !

I am still reading Jedi Academy The Phantom Bully. Roan has a substitute. Crounch was so mean to the substitute. Then Roans class had to be in a talent show. Roan and Gaiana did tricks with a voorpak. The voorpak layed eggs everywhere. The voorpak made Gaiana really mad. Then they had to do a obstacle course. Roans team won.

I read a book about active volcanoes. In this book I learned how a volcano erupts. Red hot melted rock called magma comes out through an opening in the earth's crust. I also learned that there are different types of eruptions. Some are very strong, and some are so weak that you can stand right next to the lava flow. To learn more about volcanoes read the book, "Active Volcanoes."

Kings and queens lived in castles. Important people ate off gold plates and less important people ate off stale bread. No one ate with silverware. Castle moats were very deep and for protection.

I read a book called Where Is the White House? In this book I learned that in 1812 when James Madison was president, the United States and England were at war again. In 1814 the British marched into Washington DC to take over the capitol and to burn down the White House. Dolly Madison knew the British soldiers were coming but the president was away with the troops at war. Dolly Madison and the servants took the portrait of George Washington and many other valuable items with them when they fled to safety. The British burned down the White House but thanks to Dolly Madison and the servants many important pieces of history were saved. There are many interesting facts about the White House in this book!

During art class Vashti did not think she could draw anything. But her art teacher encouraged her, and when Vashti drew a dot the teacher had her sign the drawing and hung it on the wall. Vashti then did a lot of drawings. At the end of the book a little boy came up to Vashti and said he wished he could draw like her. Vashti encouraged him and when he drew a line she asked him to sign it.
