I am going to have to make a trip to the library to check out House of Robots! Thanks for sharing the trailer and more information about the book!

Mr. Barton and I just adopted a 12 week old yellow lab this weekend, so I spent a majority of this weekend reading lots of articles on how to train puppies. We had so many questions! How much do they eat? Why does she constantly eat grass and mulch? How much should she sleep? How do we train her to go to the bathroom outside? I absolutely love Clifford books, but I knew I wouldn't learn facts and information by reading Clifford books because they are fiction, entertaining. I wanted to learn more information so I had to find articles written by experts (mostly veterinarians). I encountered many text features: bold print, headings, photographs, and captions just to name a few. Has anyone else had any questions this summer? Has anyone else read any informational or instructional books this summer to teach them something new?

Puppy training is hard work. Reading books sure will help. Plus lots of treats. I have two dogs and I am still training them.

  2. I just finished reading Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan. Mrs. Young recommended that I read it and I am glad I did. It is the story of three children, during the World War 2 era, that are helped through this difficult period by an enchanted harmonica and the power of music.

This week I am reading Ninjago, The Green Ninja. The characters are Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane. Lord Garmadon used the mega weapon on the Grundle fossil and made it come to life. The Ninjas were turned into kids. None of them liked being kids because they can't drive, nobody will listen to them and they don't like bedtime. I think the ninjas will fight the Grundle and defeat him.

The book I read was The Oyster's Secret. This book is about an oyster that had a secret. All the other sea creatures who could do stuff that the oyster made fun of the oyster. They bragged about what they could do that he could not. The oyster kept saying that he had something beautiful too. When the sea turtle came he said that he said that the oyster had something special and you should leave him alone. Then the oyster showed them his special thing and it was a pearl.

  8. Amanda M. Grade 5- I just finished reading Forever After High, The Story Book of Legends written by Shannon Hale. It is about the children of people from fairytales (Evil Queen, Prince Charming, Snow White, etc...) The Evil Queens daughter, Raven Queen, wanted to write her own legend instead of following the Evil Queens but she did not know that it could also affect the daughter of Snow White, Apple White's story. You will have to read the book to see what Raven Queen decides to do! Reading the book is much better than watching the movie, which I did after reading the book :)

This book is fiction. First, the magic treehouse is not real. Second, traveling back in time is not real. This is why the book is fiction.

I would recommend people going into second grade read this book. In this story a bunch of first graders were excited about going to second grade except for a boy named Andrew. Their teacher told them to draw what they would look like in second grade. Everyone did it except for Andrew. While everyone was drawing Andrew watered the plants, fed the hamster, sharpened pencils, got popcorn, and spun the prize wheel. His friends asked him where his picture was and if he wanted to go to second grade. He said no and one of the kids said why not. Andrew thought he wouldn't have any friends anymore. The teacher said he would have second grade friends. Andrew smiled and went to his desk to draw a picture of all of his friends. Now Andrew is excited for second grade.
